A patron saint is an advocate who intercedes on behalf of people in heaven. Typically, they are in charge of a particular group of people, a nation, activity, class, craft or occupation, clan, or other demographic. Although an exact number cannot be assessed, there are over 10,000 patron saints in the Catholic religion. The patron saint of Soldiers is Saint George. This saint also looks out for boy scouts, chivalry, farmers, field workers, archers, horses, butchers, and people who suffer from leprosy, plague, or syphilis. He is considered a prominent military saint and was canonized as a saint by Pope Gelasius I in 494.
